Many different cultures from all over the world came to California to mine in the Gold Rush. Some of the

many different
cultures that came to the Gold Rush include Chinese, Frenchmen, Dutchmen, Canadians,

Germans, Native Americans,
Irish, and Chilenos. However, not all of these people were treated fairly.  The Americans

were free to mine anywhere they wanted, andwwthey put special rules in place for the different people. A man

named James
Wilson Marshall found a pea sized piece of gold in the tailrace of his sawmill. Everyone

started to hear of the discovery, and
soon everyone came to California to mine for gold. Everyone came

because the chance to get gold was better than their
lives in their country. The Gold Rush was a global event

because many cultures from all over the world came to California
from one accidental gold strike.
