:
As a former elementary school educator with nearly 40 years of experience, I have moved into the next phase of my journey in education. This page is an index to the different STEM programs I have written and teach as enrichment courses for students in grades 2-5. These programs, as they stand, are written for accelerated students and are based in the Next Generation Science Standards. These programs utilize:

  • An engineeering problem for students to solve which is accomplished through the Engineering Design Process

  • Hands-on science activities centered around the engineering challenge the students have been given

  • Vocabulary development necessary to be able to speak the language of a scientist who would be working with the given discipline

  • The use of the crosscutting concepts inherent in the NGSS

  • Teamwork that relies on communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and innovation

  • A website developed for the program that is under study complete with a page for each grade level, the standards taught for each program, links to support student learning and a photo gallery showing the students working on their challenge

  • Sessions occur once a week, are five weeks in length, and last 60-75 minutes each

Follow the links below to see the programs that have been developed thus far. If there are no photos for that program, it is new and has yet to be taught.
